Should I even consider overclocking?

Thread Starter
I am completely new to overclocking and was wondering if I could get some input. I don't want to buy a new mobo, cpu, and ram at the moment and would like to get the most out of my current rig as I can until I have the money to upgrade properly.

I have been noticing that there are problems with overclocking the phenom 9600 and would like to know if it is even worth it trying to OC it. I have been messing with the video settings in BF3 and I usually avg around 25 fps on low settings. I feel that with my GTX 560 I should be able to get more than that. Would OCing my CPU even help with that?

I'm a noob to this and any input would be greatly appreciated.

i suppose its the CPU if your only getting 25fps on low with a 560Ti

i get around 50-60 fps on high with mine @ 1600x900

*cant help you with OC'ing your 9600 tho but good luck!

Sorry to say man but it won't do much. That chip was just a huge failure like Bulldozer currently is. Maybe if yor board supports it you can pick up a Phenom.

Certainly no harm in him trying. Not every chip is the same.

Not worth it IMO, very poor overclockers, horribly under-performed chip.

If you haven't already so should disable the tlb patch. in some cases you could see up to a 10% increase in performance. The first Phenoms didn't overclock that well so it may be your best bet.
