MSI Z68 G3 GD65 vs GD80 for overclocking.

Thread Starter
Hello

Is there any difference between the boards when overclocking. I'm not interested in 3-way SLI or any of that. Looks like the GD80 has more phases on it but does that really matter for SB chips. I sold my AMD rig and I'm looking for a new chip. I'm gonna use watercooling so I'm aiming @ 4,8 - 5Ghz.

EDIT: How's the SSD performance compared to AMD?

Peace!

This is only from what I have read ...

You will probably OC the same 65 - 80 ... although like you said the 80 has more phases but does it really help?

Im not sure but to me the 80 looks like it has bigger heatsinks ... also it has 2 nics
I have also read the 80 (assume the 65 also has this issue) that the ssd seems to run a bit slower ... not sure why or glitch in that review.

When I bought my Z68-GD65 G3, I could have gotten a GD80, but I couldn't see the need to spend the extra cash for it. It has no extra features that I needed, and as far as I'm concerned the power phases on the GD65 are more than sufficient. Not knocking the GD80, but comparing it to the GD65 isn't like comparing an Asus P8Z68 Deluxe to the M4E, which is in another league.

I can't comment on the ssd performance, but the GD65 overclocks just fine with a good chip. I run my 2500K at 4.6GHz which passed a 12hr. P95 run, but I was running it at 5.0 for several weeks without any issues, except that it needed a lot more juice for 5.0 than I wanted to use 24/7.
