Computer shutting off?

Thread Starter
I just noticed this problem while overclocking my GTX 590. When I would go over 1.013 volts on my 590 and then attempt to bench it on 3dmark 11 it would immediately shutdown before it was finished loading the first stage, then restart itself. Is the 590 too much for 1 of my rails?

A GTX 590 @stock has a TDP of 365W, so it would require over 30A @12V. I've seen somewhere a test where they just OCed the 590, no overvoltage, and they went over 450W - a bit below 40A; in your case more could necessary. If your one rail can supply 45Amps it should be ok, but since likely that's not the case you'll need to couple two rails to power the card to achieve stability.

I'm just concerned about spending a hefty amount of cash on a new power supply if it's not going to resolve the problem.

I cant be sure that a new psu will solve your problem but i think it should if u get a 1000w+ be more than enough to power up your machine..I had a ax850 that was kinda wacky on my computer i know it give enough juice to even power 2 580 but some reason my computer kept restarting under load on my oc setting but is perfectly normal stock which i wasnt sure if it my oc that was the problem or the psu but i ended up getting my enermax psu and im perfectly stable on my oc and no problems so i dunno that is up to you but i think if u could try and figure out and fix it be money saving lol ^^

Any recommendations on power supplies and should it be a single or multi 12v rail?

Could be the fact that 590's have poor power components and you shouldn't really be overclocking it at all.

Also why do you need more performance out of a 590 ?
