Need Help! Test Boot.

Thread Starter
So the rest of my parts came in today, and I wanted to do a test boot with the

Mobo, RAM, CPU, PSU to see if all works properly. From what I'm told, the best way to do this is to just put the Mobo on the box, plug everything in and see if you get the splash screen.

Now here comes my problem, I bought an H100 for my rig. When I do the test boot out of the case, should I attach the H100 or should I use the stock cooler as its much easier to put on when its out of the case. Is it safe to use the stock heat sink, than put on the h100? I don't want the stock thermal paste rubbing off on the cpu and making the H100 less effective when I put everything into my case.

the stock cooler is fine for a test boot.

no overclocking of course and I would hold off installing the os until you got it all in your case.

your fine to do it on the box my rig lives on its box

If you use the stock heatsink, which is perfectly fine, just CLEAN off the paste with a lint free cloth or coffee filter and some rubbing alcohol. don't leave it on there when you install the H100

You can use the stock HS for your test boot.

The only downside is that before you put your H100 on you will need to clean the timm left over on the CPU from the stock HS.

To clean it use some timm cleaner, you should be able to get it locally from Fry's, Microcenter, whatever is in your area. If none is available go to a pharmacy and get some 99% rubbing alcohol or 70% if 99% is not available. Use a coffee filter for a rag.

you can use the stock cooler just clean off the paste with isopropyl alcohol before putting the h100 on. really you can just run it out of the case with the h100 on and no fans yet because your just test booting then shutting down.
