A pair of cans that are better on that front are the Denon d2000. They are a more expensive, but they play nice with almost any driving unit, and have more bass than the all the AKGs. You could get away not using them with a magic audiophile sound card with pixide dust filled capacitors.

another little link to check out for headphones, I dont think it has been mentioned yet:
http://www.headphone.com/

it allows you to make quite useful graphs like this one:
graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=1723&graphID[]=2941&graphID[]=2231&graphID[]=2881

So what is that graph saying though? Is the DT770 the best value one or the Ultrasone or what? :X I have little knowledge on this time of stuff.

Weight wise, when on you can obviously feel them there but i don't find them heavy, the padding used is very comfortable being soft, hand sewn leather.

I love mine.

Dave.

What headphone/headset you talking about?

I still haven't got one definite answer yet on what to buy nor have any of my questions been answered.... so confused...

When it comes to audio, get used to not getting straight answers. And it's not that we don't want to, it's that audio is far too subjective. Yeah, you can make charts and say "this headset has light bass" or "the mids are more forward with this compared to that" but what is "light" to some is "just right" to others and "forward mids" means nothing to you until you've heard it yourself and decided whether or not that's actually a good thing. Best we can do is give suggestions based on what we think you'll like best or is traditionally considered 'good' for that type of music (Drum 'n Bass requires bass, of course) but again, only you can know what amount and type of bass, mids and highs is right for you.

In the end you'll have to take that leap and assess it for yourself. A leap compounded by the fact that you live in Australia and just sending it back or trading it for another pair will cost you way too much in shipping. Maybe try Amazon instead of Ebay? As far as I can tell it's [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=596190"]only $10[/ame] to ship to Australia if you're willing to wait two weeks for it to arrive. Seriously what the eff, we can fly around the world in less than a day but it still takes two freaking weeks to send something to Australia?

Yeah Australia gets the short end of the straw every time. Guess us Aussie just learn to accept the crazy prices we got to pay and long waiting times. :l

I guess you are right, but I just want to really know the best option out of the DT770 and the Pro 550. From a few sources like the one Simca wrote, it rates the DT 770s above the Pro 550 for bass and general gaming yet I can get the DT 770s for cheaper.

I also have NO clue on what sound card to get yet for the headphones I have listed. Since they aren't crazy ohms do I still need an amp? Really want to find out the sound card I can buy since I am going to the shops tomorrow and can pick up one for fairly good price at my local pc shop.

I know I shouldnt double post but I am going down shop tomorrow (technically today since its 1am) and just found there is a special deal on the Xonar DG 5.1 (with the 150 amp thingie) for like $35 (AU remember this). There is also the Xonar DX which is like $100 but idk the difference, people tell me they have the same chipset.

Worth getting for the DT770 or Pro 550 or do I need something better? Technically what I am asking is will I get the most out of the headphones listed with this sound card?

As far as I know, the DG is a great soundcard for the money and the amp is more than sufficient for your needs. The DX doesn't have an amp but has better sound quality, it's a step up... if you have an amp to hook it up to. You can't go wrong with the DG in my opinion, should be a perfect fit for either of those headphones.
I can agree the the AKG headphone are generally light on the bass, but its definitely there. Will the shop let you demo the headphones? That's going to be your best bet for picking out a pair that suits your needs.

The DG is great sound card. Should be fine for driving those cans you mentioned.

Let us know what you purchase.

Make sure you do not get the 32ohm version of the DT770. Preferably 600 ohm.

Nah I am getting the 80ohms version as everyone said I should. I dont want to get a dedicated amplifier to get the best out of it.

A bit OT, but what's the difference between 32ohm, 80ohm, and 600ohm DT770s, and is it a universal thing or just with these headphones?
