My mom still uses P4 for HTPC. I want to replace it due to high TDP though.

Depends on what you're using it for. Adequate for websurfing, listening to music and other non-intensive stuff. Even some low level gaming.

But if you wanted to play games like SC2 or BF3 you would definitely need at least a better video card just to run on low settings.

IF you are are just using it for web browsing and word processing there is no real need to actually move from that platform.

If however you like to or want to game most modern games you'd be best jumping to a new system.

If you have under a $100 budget, sure it will get you through.

lol I have a old dell that I can't seem to give away here in buffalo. it's 2.4 ghz, but I can't even find ddr ram cheap for it. it only has 256 right now.

i know that finding DDR ram nowdays is not a easy task bur you can gat it if you try little hard but its about 3Xprice of DDR3
