Would Galaxy S work in china?

Thread Starter
I have a Galaxy S i9000. I'm going to china in a few weeks.

I heard china has CDMA based 3G network. So is there any carrier in china running on HSDPA? or do i have to buy a CDMA Based Chinese phone?

According to Wikipedia the 3 biggest carriers are China Mobile (GSM), China Unicom (GSM), and China Telecom (CDMA).

Here is a list of the bands used in China:
2G Network GSM 900 / 1800
3G Network UMTS 2100

This is what your phone supports:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100

You should be ok!

so the UMTS 2100 frequency is GSM based?

is HSDPA 2100 = UMTS 2100?

i really want the phone to work on 3g there. My phone will be the only source of internet.

Yes, the UMTS 2100 is GSM based.

The HSDPA radio on the phone supports UMTS as well. So to answer your question, it should work
