If you're gonna be building this in December, you might as well wait for Sandy Bridge-E CPU's to come out. Everything may change by then anyways.
sandy bridge-E will be way out of his budget,
better he get i5 2500k,z68 mobo,gtx570.

8gb is way more than enough!
There are no difference between blue & black sticks, get ripjawsX

Personally given your budget you would be pleased by just getting a ATI 6950 that unlocks its shaders to kinda become a pseudo 6970 i just built one for a friend and its quite an amazing card TBH.

here is a quick list i did in a few min im not sure where you are from but if you have a microcenter near you they have a 2500k for 180 and a mobo of your choice for 60 off i think its an incredible deal. but anyway the list.

The difference between the v-pro to the v i think is just the extra sata ports....(i might be wrong there) and for the case just get what ever suits your fancy, most mainstream sub 100 cases would perform about the same. and i just noticed i forgot the cpu cooler but i would highly recommend the hyper 212+

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103065

also i am reading you would want 16gb of ram. personally unless you are doing tons of multi tasking or having 30+ tabs open in firefox you wont see a difference.
Small wonder.

Is the 580 really worth the $150 over the 570? Seems steep!

although this is an amazing psu it is very expensive. I would suggest this

OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W

almost half the price. and if you can still get the 10% off deal it comes to $67.xx
I just picked one up for myself last night.

here are some reviews so you know its not a piece of garbage like some OCZ PSUs
