That being said, why would you bother with the wifi-voip if minutes are unlimited? I'd just as soon disable wifi if I will be making a call and rely on the cell tower... Unless, of course, their specialized phone doesn't allow you to turn wifi off--which would majorly suck since your battery would die very quickly...
Not in my experience. My battery life actually lasted longer when I connected to WI-FI instead of 3G.

I know my battery sucks if I forget to turn wifi off--then again, I have a modest little LG Optimus. I generally disable all push activity on my phone, and I can have my 3g on all day and unless I'm actively doing something that's using the data connection, I notice hardly any effect on battery life over regular idle situations. However, if I leave my wifi on, my battery dies much more quickly, inherent to how wifi communication protocols work. Hopefully others don't have as poor of an experience with leaving wifi on all the time.

That's strange. Maybe your phone is setup to transmit usage statics whilst on 3G but not on WiFi, explaining the additional battery drain.

I can leave my WiFi on all day and not notice much additional battery drain as long as it's not connected to a network. Using WiFi is second only to the screen itself for battery usage.
