Is there such thing a a quad chip MB with SLI?

Thread Starter
Hey all, I need to build a machine for a project im working on. The machine is going to be running some relatively GPU intensive stuff, BUT is also going to need to be doing MAJOR number crunching at the same time.
Iv still got a healthy amount of money left in this budget so as long as its not going to be the cost of a new Benz anything is game.

So far the most heavy duty board iv been able to track down is the EVGA SR-2 with dual 1366s and SLI/XF + the ability to OC without too much effing around. But the question id like to toss out there is: Is there anything better I should be considering? Im not against going the AMD direction, im just not really up on their stuff these days. The problem is im just not that convinced that 2 OCd X5600 are going to be able to handle the horsepower requirements. So far none of the fancy 4 CPU boards iv been looking at have SLI/XF support.

For clarification I will be using XF on this system as Nvidia has yet to ship any 6 output cards. Also as a benchmark Iv run a test system with an i7 930 and 3 XFd 5870s (all older slow hardware obviously) Had the GPUs at ~80% and the CPU at 100% capacity, I was getting ~4fps so lets say the newest latest and greatest 1366 cpu is about double the performance of a 930 that puts us at ~8 fps (if were super lucky) and double that with 2 CPUs puts us at ~16fps...

Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated

you may want to wait for the SR3 to come out. It will have dual Ivy Bridge processors and SLI support, that is about as good ans a multi-processor Intel system will get any time soon in my opinion. Though I have no clue when the SR3 is coming out.
