My system worth switching out for AMD?

So im looking at buying a AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition and Asus Crosshair V Formula. I found a buyer for my P6t v2 and my i7 920 for $300. I plan on upgrading the CPU maybe by the end of next year depending on how quick something really kick ass comes along but do you guys think the Crosshair V Formula is a good buy for the future? sounds like the upcoming FM2 will be making AM3+ eol soon.

I feel that APUs at least for the time being are not performance computing future so I wouldn't write am3+ off just yet. Though you probably want an x6 because the 920 hyper-threads. so going from 8 logical cores to 4 physical will be a performance drop and I will warn you in all likely hood you aren't going to be stable above 4.5GHz on the x4 and 4.2GHz on the x6.

CHV is a great buy...i love the hell out of it.
it has handled everything i've thrown at it and not even given so much as a hiccup.

now i don't recommend the phII 955 but if you are budget then that's cool.
the 1090t and 1100t are great chips (well for the most part).

bulldozer was a bit of a fail and i don't recommend grabbing one of these just yet (although they are excellent chips...people just got overhyped)

edit:
the BD revision should be coming around Q2 of next year...at least that's what i've heard

Yeah im passing on the Bulldozer for sure. How is the 1090t compaired to the i7 920? Im thinking it would be pretty close if not a little better than the 920.

i'd assume it would be better for the most part, i'm sure the 920 will beat it some benches and vice versa...for the most part they are pretty close.

the best thnig about AMD si that it's cheap to build a new rig AND THEN it's cheap to upgrade later down the road.

lol that's the whole reason i'm an AMD guy...intel is just too expensive and get all "mind changy" on their sockets.

I'd say go for a decent AM3+ board, and:

a) if 4 cores is the most you need, go for a 960T and try unlocking cores.

or

b) if you need 5 or 6 cores, get a 1055T and OC it up to about 3.6-3.9GHz.

Interesting. I never heard of unlocking cores before. Is it just an AMD thing? Also is it a sure thing that I can unlock the cores on the 960T? I would go down that road if I can.

It's not always a sure thing... might have to down clock or at the worst not enable the core at all... though a lot of ppl have had success... Do you feel lucky? lol

It's just an AMD thing... they bin cores and sell it as a less capable cpu...
