i7 2600k potential Temp Problems

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I have recently set up my new pc with a antec kuhler 620 using two scythe slim fans for push pull (no overclock..yet). I have set the fans to max on my fan controller and have had prime95 running for and hour and a half.

CoreTemp says my core temps are from 50-55

These temps seem quite high, what temps should i be expecting?

What do you guys think the cpu can handle, if/when I overclock?

Thanks for your help in advance, sorry if this should be under the cooling section....

The CPU can handle up to 98C but staying below 80C is probably safer, reduce risk of cooler exploding. though that does seem a little warm for stock temps. Considering My 4GHz Phenom II with a stock tdp of 125w runs at 55C after 5.5Hrs on prime95 with air cooling. You might try reapplying thermal compound to the block.

Have you adjusted the voltage to lowest possible? (stable)

If that's stock settings running at 100% load it seems fine to me.

My lowest voltage possible with stock settings at 100% load gave me like 55-60°C

2 hours of Prime95 on my 2600k at stock speeds with The CM 212 EVO left me seeing 55-60C as well. I've been using the computer daily for a month now and haven't seen anything above 60C at stock speeds with this cooler.

You can always tell the converting AMD users

Bench test load will be lots higher than daily use load - if I see 80ish peak under P95, I'll probably see 60ish peak while gaming. As noted above, thermal throttling at 95C but you probably don't want to push the envelope too tightly. I use 80-85C range as my max peak under bench load, which is higher than some are comfortable with but really not dangerous.

I think your temps are in line with what you should expect to see, maybe a touch on the high side when I see 67C peak ('MAX' column).

Hi all,

Thanks for replying. I continued to run prime95 for another 5 hours and it didnt peak over 56 more than once or twice. The other results (when it was 60+) was when I had my fans set to 50%.....

So overall on 100% fans it didnt peak much over 55... I'm glad most people think this is inline with what they would expect.

Just for clarification - should I bother re-seating my CPU? - I have already replaced the standard paste with arctic silver 5...

Or ... should I start some overclocking at the weekend?

I hope to get it to a min of 4ghz eventually but this may be a slow process as im using a Zotac z68 mini-itx board.. I'll try and remember to keep my load temps below 80ish...

Thanks for all your help

Will

I don't think it is necessary to re-do your heatsink. Temps are fine.

im gonna go out on limb and say it is to high

my 2600k @4.4GHZ @1.3v with arctic cooler freezer 13

all ive done is XMP 44x100 and changed pll overvoltage and turned power saving off.

so i would say reseat the cooler try using the grain of rice method and see how it goes from there, if not get some more fans!

i see nothing above 50C when gaming even crysis 2 for hours on end.
bare in mind im on an air cooler.
