Toshiba laptop low volume output

Thread Starter
We just recently got a toshiba laptop. the sound out put is horribly low.
windows volume is all the way up, but when I connect the laptop to my tv or connect amplified speakers to it the sound is so low even with the tv or speakers at 100% volume you can hardly hear any thing.

Any one have any idea what I can do to increase the volume output of the laptop? I would think connected to a 75watt 2.1 speaker set up I'd be able to hear things.

This is a common problem with most Toshiba machines. What machine is it? Model would help me a little. ^_^

But yeah, this problem is usually solved by a restart or reinstalling the realtek High def audio driver. I've had the problem after I come out of standby. frown.gif

when I get home from work I'll post the model. this model doesnt use realtek audio though. I did a clean install of windows on it and got rid of all toshibas junk and it was a dif driver than realtek that got audio working.

Yeah, I'm about to wipe my machine clean and reinstall everything too. Then again, I don't have to, but I would rather my second hard drive not have it's own OS taking up 30GB... tongue.gif

Sorry about that problem. It's the only issue I've had with this computer, oddly never happened with any other machine from Toshiba, so I can't really complain. Every laptop company has problems from time to time. tongue.gif

If you are running windows XP, make sure to check the volume sliders in the mixer, in case the wave slider is down low and the master volume is maxed out.

These are all Windows 7 machines. There's no point to using XP anymore. It's almost, if not, 10 years old.

yea, It has windows 7 ultimate 64 on it.
I've made sure volume slider is all the way up, and I've tried the noise leveling option some have mention for toshiba laptops and nothing I've tried helped.

make sure to double check all the post processing 'enhancements' that are available in windows.

The other question to ask is: the little sound that you can hear, is it distorted(clipping) and quiet, or just plain quiet?

edit: Spelling.

If it sounds normal, just quiet, then its unlikely to be bad sound output circuitry. The easiest thing to try is using different cables or a linux livecd/livedvd/liveflashdrive.
