Developers don't really choose the platform, publishers do. A lot of developers are wholly owned by their publisher now days anyway. Basically current platform support has to do with sales and control and having next to nothing to do with piracy.

I couldn't have said it better. We've been playing computer games for more or less the same time and I can attest to the fact that DRM or copy protection in general has never worked and is mainly a way to annoy legitimate users. I certainly don't buy UBIsoft titles that have that "always online" protection.

I still sometimes have to go look around for the copy protection dial - the MIX'N' MOJO for Monkey Island 2 (just found the dial again the other day) whenever I want to play again the game that I bought in 1992. And that copy protection system is still the most amusing I've ever seen.
I was actually going to mention the old DRM that relied on you having the manual or some other such physical thing. Of course people would just copy the pertinent responses so all that happened was that anyone who lost their booklet or decoder ring or whatever couldn't play their game for more than 15 minutes. Those were the days.

I can't understand playing a bethesda game post 1995 without access to console comands. There's too much put lotion on skin else get hose, code in there to be jailed out of the console.

Seriously how can you guys stand it?

Hate it when gaming developers say that PC games are easy to pirate so they are going to focus on console, and it looks like console piracy is just as bad as PC.

for instance, you can't play uncharted 3 multiplayer without an "online pass" which is a 12 digit code that comes in the retail box.
Theres a reason why PC games stopped using these

The whole piracy point is worthless at the time: there is no DRM that can protect your IP but, meanwhile, you are hurting your legit customers giving them a very hard time with some kind of DRM.

All in all, they should get rid of it: those who are willing to pay will be paying the same whereas those who never did won't do it now. Also, cutting DRM would mean cutting on cost and, thus, they may even cut on price.

After all, a win-win situation, because sometimes it pisses me off when I buy a game (all my games are legitly acquired) and the DRM gives me more headaches than If I had just got a pirated copy, and that is something it shouldn't happen as...you know, you should be after your not-legit customers and not bother those who paid for it.

Please die.

If that ever becomes the norm in the industry, I will never buy a game again.

Piracy is more of an internal issue at this stage of game development, yet we pay for it multiple ways.

Also @ people saying this isn't PC piracy I'm willing to bet a PC was a huge massively gigantic tool used in the process of of pirating this and many other console games.

@mods don't infract me for the above statement it's simply pointing out the less obvious.
