Installing my motherboard.

Thread Starter
Easy and quick question. I am installing my mother board (in sig) and it came with the screws but does not come with the normal brass mounts. I know I used to install directly to chassis in the old days but is it still okay to do so? I have a haf 922 case.

NO NO NO. Find some stand-offs. There is too much of a chance you can have a short by going direct to the chassis. Since you are still waiting on your 2500k take the time and spend the 3 bucks. Not worth the chance of killing $350+ worth of gear.

Haven is right, the 922 does not support mobo mounting without standoffs.

Some motherboard trays have extruded "mounds" that take the place of standoffs, but the 922 does not have said extrusions.

Yeah good you played it safe mate.

Yes,you very much want to use standoffs.
Standoffs $10.99+$3.99 3 day shipping=$14.98
There are enough standoffs in that package that you won't need to buy more for a long time.

They might, give them a call. I made this mistake back when I did my first build (socket 939 lol). It Booted and then shut off because it shorted. Thankfully it didn't kill it though.

Not sure, I know my local computer store (Altex) has them.
I don't think Radio Shack will have them. The normal stand off is a 6/32 coarse thread.
