having more than 4gb of ram is better for editing right?

I had this HP laptop not the best laptop in the world but pretty ok.. 2.6Ghz dual amd 3gb ram and HD4250. I used Powerdirector to join and cut my Canon t2i 1080P clips i liked it because it had ati stream support for final transcoding. I did not have to wait like 40 minutes to convert 10min video. But i did not like one thing it crashed a lot during editing i mean i was cutting and removing some of the parts that i did not like and Baahm!DEAD frozen! So to avoid that i had to save my project after 3 steps and restart the software.. Did that happened because of the RAM?

I ordered desktop PC with 8GB ddr3 is that gonna help?

It's a mixture of both CPU and RAM when you're editing. It's always better to have better of both, but as always, more RAM does help. The difference wouldn't be night & day since you'll still have the dual core, but it will help when it comes to editing.

Actually it is far more taxing on your CPU to do video rendering. Thats probably the problem. The 8gb is noce but what speed is it and what CPU is comnig in at thing. If its anything @ or above an i3 2100/ Phenom X4 then you will have far less problems, and way faster renders, on PD.

When i went from my E5200 C2D to my 2500k it blew me away on my render times.

I ran the beta with 2 of them XFire @ stock clocks and it ran fine. But then again that was the beta. From what I have read you probably will not bae able to run full max cuz of the mem @ only 1GB. Seen guys reporting 1.5GB+ usage when maxed out. But OC your card and give it a try.
