i read some reviews on newegg which states that we don't have to flash the bios to unlock the shaders, all we have to do is switch the bio near PCB. is this correct? because i read a guild on how to unlock this card they said that we need to flash the bios after switch the bio position on the card too. Sorry for my bad English.

Hello i also have a 6950 Dirt 3, it came Unlocked out of the box.

Just flip the Bios switch to the other setting.

The switch is located near the PCI Express connection. And the switch needs to be set so its close to the PCI Express Connection.

If you dont have a default unlocked card, check this guide:
http://www.overclock.net/amd-ati/942034-how-flash-6950-6970-guide.html

Only thing you have to do, is search internet for a Modified Dirt3 bios.

you are correct. just flip the switch, and check GPU-Z for your unlocked shaders. Mind you it is not a 100% gerante that it will work perfect, but chance's are high. good luck!

YES ... it's VERY SIMPLE ... just follow my ... Step-by-Step Guide to Un-Locking a DUAL BIOS Card w/ Switch, Thanks to LA_Kings_Fan

Step 2 - You can install the CD software, but to be honest the WIN 7 driver the system auto loads for you should work too, so you could skip to Step 3 I guess ?
Step 3 - With things running, install GPU-Z and/or TriXX software or both ... then open the programs to review the Factory defaults of your card, note shaders and Core clocks etc.
Step 4 - In GPU-Z or TriXX SAVE your factory BIOS of the card. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP. You might just need it in case something goes wrong and need to reinstall the factory BIOS file in case position #2 Unlocked BIOS FAILS, and flipping the switch back to position #1 won't reload the original BIOS for some reason. THIS shouldn't happen, but better SAFE and SAVED than sorry and SOL.
Step 5 - Shut Down Windows and turn off your Computer.
Step 6 - FLIP the little Dual BIOS switch near the back plate / SLI Bridge area to position #2.
Step 7 - Turn on Computer and reboot up.
Step 8 - Re-open TriXX and/or GPU-Z and check your Shaders ... if it's 1536, CONGRATS your card UNLOCKED and you have a HD-6970 now no BIOS FLASH required it's ON the card from Sapphire ... if it's still 1408, Bummer dude no Factory Un-Lock , you could still then try FLASHING it to Unlock it, but YES this can be slightly risky and CAN void your warranty if you BRICK the card by Flashing it, most likely you have a card that Will NOT unlock, remember it's NOT Guaranteed.
BEFORE .......... VS. .......... AFTER
before.gifafter.gif

BINGO ! Unlocked 6950 ... IF your card is one of the LUCKY ONES, it's NOT GUARANTEED Remember !

Not ALL CAYMAN GPU chip's will Unlock ... but 0% of the ANTILLES GPU chips will ! and SOME DIRT3 cards have reported been shipped with the ANTILLES GPU chips on them, so ...

GPU-ZUnlocks.jpg

In General the Sapphire HD-6950 DIRT3 edition has around a 33%-50% successful report of Unlocking, so it's not unusual IF yours doesn't unlock unfortunately.

GOOD LUCK thumb.gif

I flipped the switch and loaded fine to 1536 shaders. I then overclocked to 6970 stock settings with stock voltage 1.175V. Runs smooth.

Actually the STOCK voltage on your DIRT3 card (and most 6950's) is 1.10v ... it's ONLY the TOXIC and all 6970's run at 1.175v as STOCK. Just to clear that up thumb.gif so you've over volted your card to run at those clocks, which should be ok, but some reports of it being an issue over time just so you're aware.
