It will use the remaining power tab to hold the SATA cable in place, i had the same problem a few years ago and solved it using an external enclosure with the same type of connection with the combined power and SATA.

Here's the product page, should retail for about $6 from other sources:

thanks for link i can get my old 750g harddrive working again that also has the broken l shaped piece

getting a company to retrieve information off a harddrive is very expensive a local company by me said they could do it for £2000 and i contacted seagate about getting a replacement pcb they dont sell replacment pcb but they said they could retrieve the information for about £2500

Your data pins are still in place. Be very careful might need something to push the pins down on the connector.

The idea is this sata connector is connected to the power side as well. So it will hold the connector where the pins are rather than just using a loose connector. Some luck maybe a little pressure on the pins to the other pins will get it up and connected.

If it was be Id probably just modify a data cable connector and use a plastic clamp.

You can pry the broken piece out of the connector pretty easily with a jewelers and tweezers and stick it into that paired up thing and it should support it just fine.

i dont think you guys understand- or maybe its just me who is getting confused

On my physical harddrive, the male L shape is missing- the actual cable is fine. So i do not see how the cable will fit either way, as it needs that L male connector to fit snugly. I suppose i could just glue it back on, but i have no clue how to do that.. guess that is for another thread, or for another tutorial

EDIT: in the mean time, is it possible to use a 2.5" HDD for my desktop?

You're not understanding what we are saying.

By using the all-in-one connector, you take advantage of the rigid power connector to keep the data connector in place. If you transfer the broken L-shape piece to the all-in-one connector, then, even though it is "floating" it will still pinch the leads together.

We know your plastic peice broke off. We are trying to establish a secure connection to the remaining data pins to copy the drive off.

Thats all we are doing. The one suggestion would give you a very riggid structure in which to make such a connection.

Pins to Pins and copy data off its that simple. Repair is not something i think any of us are exploring.

Ok, i see. Now... how about a hard drive enclosure... I have been meaning to get a larger internal hard drive anyway. Would a external work still? Or would i at the very least be able to transfer some data?

EDIT:
If anyone is wondering, i'd rather not buy a cable online, or try to find on in a retail store, no idea why, some phobia i suppose lol.

Why not just buy a new PCB for the drive? That would fix it 100%...

So here is what i did, in the end. Superglued it back on- and surprisingly it seems to work a bit. Here is the problem: it takes 2-3 seconds after pressing the power button for the LEDs, Fans, and everything to turn on, then after that, there is another pause between the turning on part and the splash image, which some people may ignore, but my paranoia is getting to me... does this have to do with my HD?

My MB is a AsRock P55 extreme and Hardrive is a Hitachi, or maybe the PSU; Thermaltake TR2 RX 750W. Never happen to me before when i was running my Gigabyte P55-USB3
