2 Quick Questions

Just bought some Xigmatek etreme silent fans. Two 140mm and a 120mm. They all have 3 pin to molex adapters. I'm still trying to figure out the cooling on my build.. If i use the molex adapters will the fans run at 100% constantly? And can you plug more than one of the adapters together to one molex? My case cooling is two 140mm front fans and two 120mm rear exhaust fans. I replaced the front 140mm and one of the rear 120mm. I plan on getting a Corsair H80 CPU cooler. Should i also replace the fans that come with the H80?

If you use molex, yes, the fans will be at 100% all the time.

I don't understand what you mean by plug more than one adapter to a molex, but you can daisy-chain (is that the right term?) molex connectors together (molex connectors should come with one plug for power and another to allow another molex to plug into the same source).

I'm not sure about the H80, though, I've only heard from people who say price/performance every all-in-one watercooling solution gets beat by the NH-D14/Silver Arrow.

Yes guardian i was talking about "daisy chaining them together. You get a rep for making that clear lol. So i can daisy chain my from two fans together. And my rear two together. Is there a limit on how many you can chain together?

I've been debating on either air cooling it and water cooling it. Every reviews i've read online has shown that the H80 beats a NH-14 and an Antec Kuhler. I guess i should search here for real world reviews.

Umm... there always is a limit on things, but seeing as how fans don't take up that much power, I guess you wouldn't have any problem daisy-chaining as many fans as you can mount in your case to one molex plug. It wouldn't hurt to split the load, though.

I'm sure many OCNers will tell you to go air-cooling. The general consensus here seems to be that H80 < D14/Silver Arrow < or = H100.

D14/Silver Arrow are supposed to do the task quieter, though. They do add some strain to your motherboard, but not enough to damage it. The H80s and H100s do look more classy/less messy, but they also cost more.

The D14 was only $60 earlier today and yesterday. Isn't the H80 around $90?

EDIT: OCN Threads:

And a review that supports the D14:

I would say that pratical issues would show up first (meaning 10 Molex connectors daisy-chained together would look rather ugly and hard to hide)before you reach an over amp condition. My comment only applies if the load is from fans, you could get into trouble daisy chaining molexs to PCIe adapters for gpu's but not with fans, they simply do not pull enough amps (unless you are running a handful of 3.0amp Deltas.

As far as chaining 10 connectors to one molex i wouldn't do such a thing. I was thinking more like my two front fans on one molex and my rear two fans on one molex. But if i go with a D14 then i would have two more fans in a push/pull. But i guess those two fans would plug into the mobo? Or would i just need a fan controller.
I assume at least one of those fans will plug into your mobo. Perhaps Noctua is nice and gives you a 4-pin splitter that lets you plug both fans into the mobo, allowing you to control the fan speed in Windows/BIOS.

That would be nice. BUT.... Just found out the ram i ordered two days ago from newegg won't fit with a D14. I ordered Corsair Vengeance.
Oh noes. Well, I guess H80 it is, unless you would like to do one of those mods (or is it as simple as pushing up the fan? I'm not sure) for the D14.

I'll look into it. I'm sure people on here have found a way to use a D14 with Vengeance ram. If not the H80 it is or maybe another air cooler. Maybe a Megahalem.
