[IW]Ubuntu One for Windows Bringing new users to Linux

"In the month that this was released we had 110,000 new users of UbuntuOne," Shuttleworth said. "25,000 of them had never used Ubuntu before. 25,000 users are coming to this platform just because of Ubuntu One."
Short read, seems like a good advertising for ubuntu to get its name known to a larger market.

If repost, report please.

I actually tried Ubuntu when 11.10 released. Liked it until I was having problems with my laptops video card not working on it. The drivers were installed but it wouldn't use it. Spent a whole day researching it and editing some .xconf file only to mess up my whole Ubuntu install. Shortly thereafter I re-installed Windows 7 on my lappy.

If it takes me a better part of a day to try and get my video card working from my lappy just to run Minecraft, I would rather stick to Windows 7.

Edit: I also tried signing up to Ubuntu One but it kept giving me an error whenever I tried to register for one. Kept saying my email was invalid.

Nothing but problems with me and Ubuntu.

off topic:
its xorg.conf and what video card was it?

on topic:

ubuntu one is available for windows/android/iOS users. its a free 5gb of cloud storage, if that is something you are interested in, and could use. you might want to check it out.

care to elaborate on how a cloud storage service could mean steam for linux? as ubuntu one is a linux product produced by canonical (creators of ubuntu)?

Recognition of ubuntu. People will check out the rest of their stuff if they like the cloud storage.

There are still plenty of problems with the linux platform, before imho, it is ready for everyday average users.

There are still a ton of problems with the audio and video systems, not being up to par even with windows xp. there are also all the different package management tools and different package containers available, the major distro's would need to move forward to unifying some of these systems, to give it a broader reach.

But that is what ubuntu's goal is, to introduce the world of linux to the average user, and they are very successful at that. I do see this as a good thing, it would get people interested in ubuntu linux itself (just hope they aren't scarred away by unity tho )
