Should I add another pump to my loop? (360+240/cpu/2 GPU blocks)

Hey guys!

Thinking of upgrading my setup a little bit and want to know what new things I need.

Currently running:
  • EK Supreme HF
  • EK FC 6970
  • Black Ice Pro III Radiator (360)
  • Koolance 450 pump (basically MCP-655/Laing D5)
  • Koolance RP 450X2 reservoir
  • Enermax Magma Fans (1500rpm/pull)
  • The rest of the hardware in my sig

Right now the temps are around 30C idle/39 load for CPU and 30C idle/42 full load for GPU. I am planning on overclocking the 955 to as close to 4.0 as I can get, as well as adding another reference 6950 to the loop, With the added heat from those things (as well as the fact that my radiator is very low profile) and my modding itch, I am planning on adding a second radiator to the loop, most likely a EK Coolstream XT 240. My reservoir is a bay res with spots for up to 2 450 pumps (in same or different loops). I was wondering if it would benefit me whatsoever to add the second pump. I am no pro by any means, but I had heard that restriction (caused by 90 degree fittings/multiple rads and multiple blocks) may have a negative effect on performance. If you want pics, they can be found in my worklog in my sig!

The flow would go:

res/pump>360 radiator>EK supreme>GPU blocks (parallel)>Ek 240>res/pump

Dont really want to buy another pump, but I would consider it. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance thumb.gif

How many GPM does that pump get? Get one with atleast 1.5-2 GPM. Or you could just whip your hair back and forth in the water to make it move faster, kinda like a turbine.

You wont need a second pump.. I ran that exact same pump in my system with 1cpu/2gpu/rx360/rx240 and the water was blasting into my res..

I now run the same loop minus the RX240 as it only netted me 4c difference in temps..

Edit: I did have the COV-RP450 top for my pump though.

The whole purpose around buying a 655 is so that you will never need two pumps. At one time I ran three of them, but I had about 30' of tubing with a resaviour in the sump in my basement (free water chiller, but was too much of a hassel)

Definitely won't need another pump. My friend's watercooled hackintosh (hexcore) actually runs cooler with the pump(tnk400, a less powerful pump, iirc) on the controller at 50% than it does at full speed (not to mention it's noticeably quieter).

Are you running your pump at full tilt (5)? or slower?

I believe its a little over 3 at the moment, gets pretty loud at 5. I spose I could crank it up if need be!
