4pin to 3pin help

Thread Starter
My CPU fan, Zalman CNPS 9900 MAX, uses a 4pin connection to the motherboard...I want to connect it to my 3pin fan controller. What do I do here? Are there any adapters out there where I can control my CPU fan from my fan controller or should I use some kind of software?

the 4-pin fan connector uses a PWM signal to control the speed of the fan, while the 3-pin connector uses voltage to control the speed of the fan. most PWM fans can be controlled using voltage, you just have to leave the part of the connector with the 4th, normally blue, wire hanging off the end of the 3-pin header on your fan controller.
