Tight Budget-Upgrading to BF3

Thread Starter
I want to upgrade my PC before buying BF3. This is my current system.

-X3 435 (4th core isn't stable)
-(2x 2gb) 4gb 1600 G.skill RAM
-A780L3G
-Sapphire 5750 1gb
-Windows 7-64

I've already ordered an XFX 6950 1gb. I originally wanted a 2gb version but I found a great deal on the 1 gig and decided I could use that money towards something else.

I'm thinking of buying a 955 BE. What do you guys think? Is it worth it? I'll be playing at 1080p.

If you have a Microcenter close than phenom ii x4 830 is the best bang for your buck bar none. $50 for a guaranteed quad deneb core.

If not than I'd say see how it runs with your current hardware before upgrading.

Thanks guys. I think I'll try BF3 with my current setup. If I see the need to upgrade anything else, I'll go with a 955 BE or x6 if I can find the funds. The 830 is excellent value, but I'd need a little more than that if I'm going to upgrade at all.

I would recommend getting a 960T, right now it's $5 cheaper than the 955 on newegg and you have a 50/50 chance of unlocking it to a X6, and even if you don't unlock it you can overclock to 3.2 Ghz and still get the same performance as a 955 while consuming less power.

My cpu definitely needs to be upgraded. After switching out my 5750 for the 6950, I'm getting around the same FPS on BFBC2. Obvious bottle necking.

955BE Is your best bet, less hassle. Easy overclocking and no stability issues.

Yep, 955 for sure. And if you can, see if you can pick up a 8gb kit of ram for like $35 shipped, because BF3 is a bit ram hungry too.
