Warning: MSI GTX 570 Scam

So about couple of weeks ago i have started hunting for a reference gtx 570, yea yea i've heard about VRM issues but i was not going to overvolt, well maybe just a little, anyways i came across this very nice deal @ us.ncix.com. Picture shows fully reference msi gtx 570, and part number matches msi website which guess what, also shows fully reference model. Here are both links:

http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N570GTX-M2D12D5.html

http://us.ncix.com/products/index.ph...3&promoid=1339

So i got the card, all excited like a baby, I open the shiny package and see a gtx 470 with a gtx 570 sticker on it. Well yea, I popped the card in and indeed the card is a "GTX 570 chip on the GTX 470 pcb with a gtx 470 cooling solution on it, Obviously with no fancy vapor chamber heatsink on. Bummer. I've had a gtx 470 before and while that card was pretty fast - it was a freaking blow drier. No a BIG FREAKING BLOWDRIER, and guess what, this card sounds the same, although runs cooler. I have started googling the issue and apparently im not alone . MSI have been selling these Frankensteins here, in the US and overseas, they even were making GTX 570 OC with GTX 480 pcb/cooler, and therefore without proper vapor chamber cooling.

by the way here is how the card i got compares to the real gtx 570:
Attachment 237189

From the little research i've completed i learned that cards that contain v222 among first 6 digits of s/n are the gtx 470/570 hybrids like the one i got. Serial numbers of fully reference models on the other hand contain v801.

Now how the hell am i suppose to know what i am buying before i bought it?? especially since both reseller website and manufacturer website show "proper" GTX 570"

did guys from msi decide that its better for me to purchase a blowdrier instead of proper 570 without actually letting me know what i am buying???

I think this is something called MISADVERTISING

What do u guys think i should do about it?

I dont want to pay another 20 bucks to RMA and ship the Frankenstein back and to wait wait wait for a refund..

I'm officially turned off to buy anything from msi again

Boooo MSI !!!

I would return it, why spend a bunch of money and then have something u don't like, why not email newegg or call them. Have heard of ppl getting it sent back for free. The first msi gtx 570 i bought had the gtx480 cooler, rma'd it cause of issues and then got back a newer model that also didn't work. In the end i got a tf3 oc edition for free. Don't keep it if ur not happy!

I thought reference cards were meant to be all the same?
That's a bit sneaky.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. See my thread here.

Give that thread a read-through. I called up Newegg and called them out on false advertising. They gave me an advanced refund, and turned around and bought two EVGA GTX 570 SCs off of the OCN Marketplace for $100 cheaper than the $640 burn in my pocket that the MSi cards were.

thanx metallicamaster3, i've seen your thread, the problem is i didnt buy this card from newegg, i got it from US.NCIX, im not sure how good their customer service is, i will however try to rma the card if they agree to pay shipping.

you see the thing is its not even reseller's fault - they just took information from the MSI website which shows reference model. This is clearly MSI's messup. Are we only people who got this mutant? i dont think so. Msi knew about the issue for months yet their website still shows real gtx 570.

and i dont think i want a card from OCn marketplace without a warranty, if i bought an Evga card which is great company with great reputation it'd be only brand new one with lifetime warranty. This is one of the reasont why i have chosen msi card - their warranty is by the S/N so its easier to resell this card in the future cause it will still carry manufacturer warranty. In addition it was cheaper than any other brand new 570 i have seen for sale.

I feel really bad that manufacturers get away with tricks like this.
I wrote to MSIAlex but got zero response. I will contact msi to see what they say, even though i think they will blame on the reseller.

It is not OK for companies to practice stuff like this, especially if they care about their customers and reputation.

Ok, so i just spoke to NCIX customer service representative and they refuse to pay for the shipping and on top of that they want to charge me 15% restocking fee if I return the card. I cant really blame them cause they just used whatever info MSI provided them with but still if it was newegg they would take care of the issue.

I will try to contact msi customer service and see what they say

Test the card. If it artifacts in the slightest at stock, call them up again and claim it's defective, and tell them you want a refund. They should give you a shipping label as well.

Wow... they want 15% restocking fee on some product you didn,t order thats just crazy.
I hope you get this sorted out. Isn't there some company in the US where you can leave a complaint about a company and they will contact them for you? (i don't live in the US but heared/read other people talking/writing about it.

This ^ right here is correct and a good way to start.

* Get someone on the phone. Write out a complete list of things that are wrong with the purchase, and what you want done to resolve it so you can speak easily when you do get a hit on the phone.

* Shoot a video of you showing the difference between the 2 cards and nab some nice photos.

* Tell the person on the phone that you are trying to resolve the issue as calmly and respectfully as possible. And that you would hate to have to upload your video footage to YouTube so that potential customers can see what they may have in store for them. Tell them you'd especially hate to involve the BBB.

For the amount of money you dished out, you should get exactly what you paid for. Period.

Good luck, bro.

Don't be afraid to get a little rugged on them ; they knew exactly what they were doing when they cobbled those cards together.
