Stripped Motherboard Standoff problem

Thread Starter
Got a problem, trying to remove motherboard screw mount from case, but I cannot get screw out. It seems the standoff is stripped and it only comes out so far, and I cannot get damn motherboard out my case. I dont know what to do since my UD4P mobo is still installed and I do not want to damage it.

Not sure how to go about it while not damaging the mobo, since I need to remove it to sell it lol. -/..

If you mean that you've stripped the screw head unfortunately there is only one option. You have to drill out the screw. This "shouldn't" damage the motherboard as long as you take your time and use the correct size drill head.

On top of that, you will need to ensure that you've got rid of any metal filings from the surface of the motherboard, one of those little computer vacuum cleaners will be fine for this.

Are u trying to remove a screw which holds the mb in place or the mounts/spacers that holds the mb from the case?

U could also use some pliers if the screw came out a bit. If u drill u need to be really careful!

Yeah the motherboard is still in the case, the screw only comes out a little bit. I wont be drilling the thing out, to much risk for me..

In which case you'll not be getting the motherboard out then.

EDIT - The only other thing you can try is take the other side of the case off, get a pair of pliers, hold the bronze standoff in place and hope it comes out.

Try lying down the case on the side and get a bigger plier and put some pressure on and twist

Pliers, pressure and twisting usually works. Often it means you remove the support from the case as well, but that helps, as you get the board out, and now have room to get at both sides.

Sounds like the standoff itself has come loose. Does the screw seem to just spin? if so I would try tightening the screw so the standoff goes back in, then try to remove the screw again. If the screw itself has been cross threaded into the standoff you could reach around the back of the mobo, grab the threads of the standoff and put more pressure on the screw to get it out. This way you won't permantly damage anything as your case surely came with an extra standoff/screw.
