What you're posting is completely irrelavent to gaming on 580 Quad. I can try to calculate. Let me see. Put an OC on cards: start with 300W instead of 250, going lower per-GPU (scaling) 300-275-225-200W, OVERclocked, you'll pull 1000W on GPU only. Add 125W for CPU, 25W rest. 1150W OC'ed. If you take out the OC, it'll land in somewhere around a 1000W. Which makes sense since Guru3D pulled 750W with three cards. So not even close to 1.5kW.

I plan on overclocking them to the stable limit aswell.

DO you think it would be better if i leave the 1500w just for the gpu's and use the 1300w for the watercooling and everything else?

I would use the 1.5KW PSU for the GPUs, that should ensure stability for the cards.
Then, Use the 1.3KW PSU for the rest of your computer, CPU/Fans/HDDs etc.

Although, You could use the 1.3KW PSU for the GPUs but may be unstable or stable depending on the Manufacturer and how much you can actually stress the PSU.

Thats just my information, Hope it helps.

Get the HCP1200 and call it a day, it'll handle the 580's like a champ, I believe somone posted a link regarding the HCP, read up on it and see for yourself what it's capable of.

EDIT:

The HCP should be able to handle 1445w dc output 24/7 (meaning it can pull 1700 from the wall and assuming 85% efficiency).

Why don't you buy a Nuclear Reactor with that money tree of yours. This way, you won't need to upgrade your PSU. Ever!!!

Can use whichever one you like. All you need is 1300W and adding more unit, although balance the load (for better PSU performance), would create a potential failure point due to the dual ATX 24-pin splitter.

To me, it sounds like connecting two PSU's together caused it (the dual PSU connector). Another victim that believes in the ridicilious power requirements. All that PC needs is 1200W.

I agree, that's the 1st thing that came to mind when reading this. Either his dual PSU connector was faulty or improperly connected. He in no way needed another PSU on top of a 1500w PSU for that system.

On a side note, I don't know where some of these people dream up these astronomical figures for what they think their PC needs as far as a power supply."

Seriously, if I could run Tri-SLi'd 580's on an HX1000 (whole system), then a 1.2 to 1.5kW psu is all you need.

All I can speak of from personal experience was the peak load power consumption of a i7 940 @ 4GHz with 1.4Vcore with 2 GTX 580 3GB at their max vCore slider, my wall meter was telling me I was peaking at around 930-950W while running Crysis 2 or some benchmarking software.

I think the i7 940 was pulling ALOT as when I put it back to stock my power consumption dropped about 150-200W under full load. I would think you would want a 1200W-1500W power supply if you were planning on running 4 580s just for pure safety (overplanning).

Unfortunately my PC Power Meter device won't be coming out to the market for at least a year, which would help put arguments like these to rest as it would allow testers to see how much each card pulls from the 12V PCI-E power connectors, the 12V power from the pci-e in the mobo along with the 3.3V in there as well. I guess this just helps cement the need for something like this and getting it to the market...If i can ever find the spare time these days (along with affording several prototypes).
