To me, it sounds like connecting two PSU's together caused it (the dual PSU connector). Another victim that believes in the ridicilious power requirements. All that PC needs is 1200W.
[/INDENT] I agree, that's the 1st thing that came to mind when reading this. Either his dual PSU connector was faulty or improperly connected. He in no way needed another PSU on top of a 1500w PSU for that system.

On a side note, I don't know where some of these people dream up these astronomical figures for what they think their PC needs as far as a power supply."

Man, can I have your autograph. band.gif You are just way toooo famous for the rest of us.

EDIT:

The HCP should be able to handle 1445w dc output 24/7 (meaning it can pull 1700 from the wall and assuming 85% efficiency).

This is my 1500w:

is this good enough?

The Strider 1500 is a solid unit and is sufficient for a setup that needs 1350W.

What model is the 1300W unit?

DO you think it would be better if i leave the 1500w just for the gpu's and use the 1300w for the watercooling and everything else?

Use a relay would be a good idea to sync the PSUs.

The system is used for Hash bruteforcing (something similar to the Bitcoin miming just to understand) so not really essential the PciEx16 for all the cards as the bandwidth is small and all the job is GPU calculation.
The system is cooled by an XSPC 750 (reservoir/waterpump 750 litres/hour) 4 EK waterblocks (2 copper acetal and 2 nickel acetal as were not available 4 the same frown.gif) and 2 360mm radiators.
The PSUs are one Antec continuos power pro 1200W and a thermaltake toughpower 1500w sync via a relay.

Watts/voltage=amps

1500 watts at the wall is 12.5 amps for U.S. norm of 120 volts, if your significant other turns on a hair dryer you could possible shut down the entire east cost

He'll lose some potential power left in the units and a lot from efficiency as well. Lots of power to be wasted by using two for a system that doesn't even need 1.5kW. He should just use either one out of two of his units. It's ridicilious to put a 1300W on top of 1500W for a system that requires 1350W at most.

I trust you Johnny, i just want to rest easy knowing that my 4way sli will have all the power it needs. are you saying that i can put everything including my watercooling components like fans leds pumps on the 1500w strider?

Of course, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to. I mean, Tri-SLi stock pulled 750W. With an OC and a third card added, it shouldn't exceed 1150W or so. Have a look at here, a top end pump pulls 27W:

http://www.dangerden.com/store/eheim-1250.html#tabs

And those fans etc. don't significantly increase consumption. You're well safe with the Strider 1500.

We await your response.

If what you say is correct then his four 470s are pulling over 75% of his PSU during games, despite that setup being so absolutely retarded that it's awesome. tongue.gif

And then his CPU is a 130w monster on top of that so he's pulling almost a kilowatt right? Nope.

The videos are most likely showing what the PSU is pulling from the wall and were probably red-lining those power supplies the entire time. It's like saying a sports car can do 400MPH but you would need to run it at 6K RPM to keep that. Would you ever do that? I sure hope not because the engine would die later that week most likely. Same situation.

Four 580s don't pull 375w a piece, they were shown to pull around 240-243w on full blast. They're actually more power efficient than the 480 which pulls around 250-255w.

For the quartet of GPUs, I wouldn't go with anything less than an AX1200 or the equivalent of another brand from ASUS, SeaSonic, or Super Flower... though I did just say the same PSU maker/brand three times if anyone can get the joke. tongue.gif
