This is me though, not everyone has the same hardware or OCs as high, just posting my experience with 4 way sli 580 power consumption.
Well your subzero or OC'ing season experiences certainly doesn't reflect the guy's regular everyday gaming setup. So you're simply giving him bad advice by overexaggerating his needs while telling him numbers he will never pull.

We are putting a lot of effort (and when I say we, I mean OCN as a whole, not me, because this guy is a troll) into helping someone who just wants to buy the best of everything, has no idea why, cannot think at all for himself, and I would guess has 0 intention of actually buying any of this. Some people do buy these sorts of rigs (and have proof, something you do not have), but do it because they are enthusiasts and understand what they are doing. I would guess that most enthusiasts didnt start out by getting 990X w/ 4 580s and a custom water cooling loop (or 6 like you want to do) just because they "have the money". Every day it seems to be a new post "hey guys, whats the best possible <insert something you know nothing about> there is? I'm going to buy 3 because I am awesome". It's getting old fast.

The guy's getting 580 Quad-SLi, which needs 1350W. End of story. I don't have to take this excessive BS everytime you see "4-way 580 SLi!" Then go 2000W like an idiot with no idea. Mind you, 580 Tri-SLi can be ran on 1000-1200W. Info has been given over and over again. Use some logic, then put that last step on top of 580 Tri-SLi. I think this is enough.

4way 580s may pump 1000 to 1100 watts when gaming. a GOOD 1350w is recommand. 1500 is safer.

Xtrem benching is another world ....

Get a 1500w and call it a day.

Thread Starter
Thank you all for the Info and for clearing all that up about how much wattage i will need!

I will be using the 1500w for the cards and the other for the rest of my rig.

Thanks again.

Now if i can just get my hands on 2 more of these cards! they are always sold out!..

Was gonna suggest the 1500 watt too, most of the high end boutiques use them for their quad setups and with that kind of reputation/money invested It would def seem to me a safe bet. Always better to be a bit higher imo on psu, not suggesting super overkill but some headroom helps

hey buddy, here is a picture of my setup, taken while assembling. With no OC on the cpu and the gpus maxrevo1500w is enough, once you oc everything you need a second psu even 500-650w one will do

And I'd also give that thread a read, there's some good info there.

1188W from the plug, again on Guru3D's high profile machine. Let's convert, about like, 1000W at stock? With 580's, even with an OC, you won't pull much more. 1350W is all that's needed and TBH, I'm getting a little bored...

So now 3dmark and furmark are unrealistic? any other programs we are not allowed to run?

I like to play it safe and get a psu that can run my hardware regardless of what software i run on it. I pulled 1kw at the wall (850wdc) on my rig, i would never run 3 on my power supply

This might be a sarcastic comment, but its so true. If any one got the money to spend on QUAD SLI, then it really doesn't matter how much you spending on the PSU. Grab the biggest PSU you can fine and call it a day.
