Looking at liquid cooling for my i7 950 rig

Hello,

So for the longest time I have been considering liquid cooling for my core i7 950 based rig (sig rig).

For a while I was looking at the XSPC Rasa which I have heard is a great kit but I have also been looking at the EK kits and all their stuff.

See if I got the RASA I would be replacing the tubing with UV blue tubing and I would be adding a 120MM rad to put in series with the 240MM rad which would require me to get a more powerful pump and external resovoir.

I figured that since I plan on adding an additional radiator (possibly another or maybe a bigger one) that I should go with a more high end kit so I am looking at the EK kit that is based on a 240MM rad.

What is the general consensus is EK worth the money? Are their kits worth the cash?

I would also like to know about how folks with liquid cooled systems move their PC around, I am worried that connections may come loos and liquid spilling all over the computer, I have heard that you have to drain your loop before moving your PC is this at all true?

Well

You have the RX360 kit which has a very nice rad in it. You wouldn't need to add a second one nor would you have to upgrade the pump.

The tubing though sucks completely

From what I gather, and I'm just about to build my first loop, it's safe to move your pc around the house, as long as you're gentle i.e. don't drop or bang it

When people say to drain the loop before moving your pc they may mean drain it before you put it in your car and move it to a different house, city etc, just a guess though..

Why the additional rad? I cool my 950 with only a single 240mm rad, at stock core temps don't go above 55 on the hottest core.

In the US, EK kits cost more than Rasa. Rasa is a good kit, really the only downers to speak of with it are the tubing and the pump which isn't the best.

Whether to drain or not depends on how secure things are in your box, and how confident you are of your connections. Leaks in normal operation only happen if you're careless, don't use clamps of some sort, and/or don't leak test.

I run my i7 950 4ghz and 2 x GTX 570's off one RX360.. Temps don't go above 62c on CPU with 31c ambient, and 49 on GPU's.. You honestly don't need 360 rad for a cpu loop..

You dont need a 2nd rad but if you were to put it this will not affect the pump as rads have almost no restriction
Between an EK kit or Rasa I would go for a Rasa RX kit

thanks for the responses so far!

The reason I would be adding a second rad is that I have plans of adding one to up to three GPUs in the loop.

When I move the PC it would be taking it out into a car and driving to and back from school about half hour drive.

I understand that the EK kits are far more expensive than the RASA but I'm willing to invest in quality gear, I also like the idea of having a pump that is separate from the reservoir.
