I have heard this also. I've had mine since release and it still looks new. I know sweat can tear up a mouse, so maybe people with sweaty hands have this issue.

I can confirm that the rubber sides peel off easily, my hands sweat quite a bit though. I had the same problem with the coating on the G500 but not on my 5 year old Gen 1 G5.

The coating is very very thin, personally I would have preferred the sides to have the same material/coating as the top of the mouse. My hands do not sweat at all on the top portion of the mouse, whatever coating they applied to the plastic (feels like a satin finish) feels much better than the rubber they used on the sides.

The rubber sides won't peel off that easily as long as you don't scratch them.
