Unlocked a X2 555 BE but i have some questions to answer

Thread Starter
My spec
Gigabyte GA-MA78LMT-US2H
X2 555 BE
OCZ DDR3 1333
500 W Cooler Master
EVGA GTX 260 core 216SC

I finally managed to unlock my proc.
Now running at x4@3.2Ghz at 1.31v
Passed Prime95 without errors.

My question is : My motherboard is 4+1 phase , is it safe to keep it as quad with that voltage ?
I can only unlock it by increasing my NB Chipset voltage to 1.2v(1.1v default)
Trying endless times before, without increasing NB voltage without success.
I have never before seen someone that have to up NB chipset voltage to unlock proc. Is it normal ?
I know that OC quad cpu on 4+1 phase motherboard is not a great thing, but would like to get little more GHz . My goal is not excced 1.4v on cpu.

Temps after 5 hour Prime toped at 47c.
thanks for answers.

This is interesting:

http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/94...fety-125w.html

I would be worried to overclock some on that board. It's a great board for unlocking but I'm not sure it can handle too mch

Consult this as well

http://www.overclock.net/amd-motherb...tion-list.html

doesn't suggest that board for it

Tommorow will check for lowest stable V

GA-990FXA-UD3 <-- hey, will i be able to unlock on this MB ?

My board s 4+1 phase and i have it loced to over 4.0 ghz on the same chip. I have been told on this forum many times no no no. I run my sig rig about 10 hours a day and have no problems. I think you should test instead of just thinking you cant do some thing.

I didn't mean to discourage him but I know that if I gave someone the idea that there couldn't be an issue it would be reckless on my part. With the unlocking chips they aren't all the same. Albeit the 555be is an almost sure bet to unlock> in my personal opinion it's a good board and you should try to OC, maybe just take more caution than usual.

Those are very good to unlock and overclock, might not unlock the extra cores for you though.

i understand np.
OP. heads up on the chip after unlocking you will not be able to monitor the core temps anymore. you can see the chip temp still its timpin0 most of the time.

OP your board should throttle in the case that the VRMs are overtaxed, so it shouldnt end in catastrophic failure.

I'd say grab some heasinks and direct a fan to blow on them and you'll be just fine with overclocking it.

Never had to up the voltage to NB. I had to up the voltage to cpu of course but other than that nothing other tahn mess with the multipier and the core clock. the rest was left on auto. O when i put in 1600mhz ram had to adjust the ram thing from auto to 1/4 or somehting like that.

Are the VRM's on that board heatsinked? If so, you should be able to stay at 4 cores and probably overclock some, but not too much. If not, then just install a heatsink.
Either way, just monitor the VRM temperatures and you should be fine as long as you don't go crazy with the voltages.
