Thread Starter
i have a intel motherboard and i have 5 connector pins for the power pins.

here are the pictures of the connectors and the power pins.

cables- http://oi43.tinypic.com/2hmg87l.jpg
The cable end read Power+ Power- PowerSW ResetSW H.D.D LED

Pins - http://oi41.tinypic.com/20tidz9.jpg
The power switch pins are the ones in the top left of the motherboard

Basicly my problem is that the power button does not work when i plug them into the correct pins. I have tried reversing (spinning 180 degrees) and no luck. I have also tried the power button on the reset pins. The button works fine on the reset pins. I think its only the 2 pins for the PowerSW. I had a thought it may have a shortage in those 2 pins because when ever i turn off my computer on windows it just turns back on again...

if you have any suggestions on how to solve the power button issue please reply to this thread.

Thanks in advance.

okay, I found the front panel sticker that came with my 775 intel board... if the pin's are the same it would look something like this:

1111.
11111

top row, first two pins= power led
top row, sec. two pins= power switch
second row, first two pins= hd led
second row, sec. two pins= reset switch
second row, final pin = +5 dc

there should be 9 pins in the bank in your picture that you posted.

edit: you should have a power sw., power led, reset sw, hd led
+5 dc I have not come across in a very long time, and even then that was rare to see

You stated you think you may have a short in power sw in that set of pins. Is this pc OEM or did you build it? If you assembled it, I would suggest powering it down and pulling the board, flip it over and in good lighting, check the area around the front panel bank for any funky discoloration. I am not well versed in how to check if a momentary switch is faulty or not... but if it is restarting in windows when you are wanting it to power down, you may want to check out microsoft's fix my pc automated tool... I dont remember the link off hand
