right now i am getting a 5.1 system (reciever is the Onkyo HT-RC370) but i plan on adding two more speakers in the future for 7.1
The Spdif cant do blu ray audio because it can not manage the protection. With Analog you need the sound cards I mention to do it in analog as those cards can manage the protection as they have the chip on it to do so.

The Ti-HD doesnt have the chip to manage the blu ray audio which why it cant do Full blu ray audio like the auzentech X-Fi HD.

But yea your only option is to use your HD4850 as it has realtek Audio chip on it which supports full blu ray audio thru HDMI.

Alright, i think the Windows thing helped a little. I did some cmos reset and took out my bios battery then loaded up win 7 and it booted (i also disconnected the dvd drive). Anyway i reconnected it and it shows up now. At least i know its not damaged. I will hold off till late christmas or new year and see where my budget is at that time before i pull the trigger on a blu ray drive or standalone blu ray player

My laptop will have to do for now. thanks for the link

no worries. It happened to my parents computer right after they installed iTunes, and the registry alterations worked.

I use PowerDVD 10, it supports Blu Ray playback with menus, has all the bells and whistles like 3D, etc.
VLC /Nuff Said

The quality of the blu ray play back + the option to adjust aspect ratio makes me want to whip my hair back and forth.

VLC can't play actual Blu Ray discs...it play anything but blu ray codecs. .mkv is not a blu ray codec.

As far the drive go...they are all the same really. Just buy what ever is on sale. They each take a turn

I wouldn't mess around with a bluray burner...they are spendy and the disks them selves are really expensive. I just get bluray readers
Blu-ray disc's are always going on sale. The lowest I seen them go is under a dollar per a disc. That's not too bad considering they can hold TONS of data on it.
