Which GPU for 100fps or more on all modern games? !! - Page 2

All of the above cards need minimum FULL HD RESOLUTION to SHINE! Geez louise!!!
This. My 2500k at 4.5GHz can't keep the game at 100+ all the time.

Wrong. And obviously didn't read his post.

So I'm looking for a new GPU CPU that can run everything at 100fps on 1024x768. It shouldn't be that hard, right?

This is a little more accurate, better just switch to SB now and get it over with. Or, you know, buy a decent monitor. If you really must keep the CRT pick up a Sony W900.

Which is why I suggested a Radeon 7990 or a GTX 690. I thought the sarcasm would be pretty obvious...

Thread Starter
Well, I'm glad everyone is having fun with their sarcasm.

You all need to read and pay attention a little more. OP said at 1024x768 res. Not 1920x1080.

I'd say around an HD 5770 should be more than enough. It played many games at 1366x768 for me very nicely.
So a GTX 550 or 560 would be more than enough?

Why would it be a joke? And why would I know that? It wasn't taught in my school. If I knew everything, I wouldn't be here asking for help! So I need a better CPU? Upgrade to what? Bulldozer? My mobo is bulldozer ready Or are you saying SB is the only way to get 100fps at 1024? I would need some kind of GPU, right? I assume you can't just run games without a GPU?

I already own a Sony FW900. I like the C520K more and that is what I'm using.

So after all these posts, what I'm learning is that I need to sell my mobo and processor and switch to SB??? No GPU? just a SB processor? 2600K? that's it?

Thank you

You'll still need a discrete gpu. They're just saying at lower res's like 1024x768 more of the load is put on to your CPU, so get the best CPU you can get, and add a decent gpu like a 460 or HD 6850 and you'll be fine.

Sorry OP, I didn't mean to offend.

Honestly, my advice would be to just try it first, and if you don't get the 100+ FPS that you seek, THEN upgrade. What's the harm in trying it now, since you already have the rig available to test it with?

To be honest, I think you will find that 100fps is unrealistic at this point in time with BF3. Those with beefy CPUs, can you stay above 100fps when you remove the gpu from the equation? Based on the performance of my 2500k I would guess it cant be done 100% of the time. Interested in hearing some results though.

I would suggest taking a look at 720p benchmarks, a setup that can get close to your goal there should make it at the slightly lower res you're wanting. You will definitely need a more powerful CPU because everything will be CPU-bound at that res. Are you running 1024x768 just to have 100hz+ refresh rate? I'm kind of confused as to why you would pick a res thats less than most of the cell phones out right now. Any explanation?

You definitely need to upgrade the CPU, but you can't go light on the GPU either if you plan to run high settings.
