It's true, BD may have disappointed, but the engineers might not necessarily be the (only?) ones to blame.
A corporation is a body of individuals, but it's unwise to assume that the engineers alone are the ones who messed things up. Even aside from engineering, you have departments for accounting, financing, management, and quality control - any combination of which could have led to bulldozer's unfortunate performance issues, or at the very least, made it more difficult for the engineers to design a quality product.
Maybe they shortened timelines or reduced budgets or whatever. I don't know much about the internal workings at AMD. Maybe their other departments aren't as restrictive as I might imagine. I'm just saying that it's foolish to place the blame entirely on one group.
And it's particularly foolish to hope that competent people lose their jobs.
