I'd suggestion some educational games on the PC. If you want to spring for a system, I can't see that being bad either. With him being so young, furthering along his hand eye coordination would not by any means be a bad thing.
All that said, my parents godson has autism. His parents got him a Wii and it has helped improve his motor skills. There are quite a few games on the Wii for younger kids.
Ultimately, I'd say spring for a Wii if you can, new or used.. Just limit his time to maybe an hour or two a day and if you get it for him, play with him as much as you can. You'd be surprised how much bonding can go on playing video games with your kids.
