Broken GPU fan blade 560ti TFII - Page 2

I tried to turn it lightly and a fan blade fell out and it started spinning.
So right now it's working fine as far as cooling goes....noise however is another story. It's much louder than the video makes it sound, but like it shows in the video it only really makes the noise at like 58-65% fan speed.
So I guess my question is, since from what I've seen I'm not going to be able to replace the fan, is this safe? Can I just avoid those fan percents? Maybe just make afterburner skip past it and deal with a rattle now and then as it builds up speed? Or would the vibration be bad for my GPU?
What if I broke off a blade opposite the one that is currently busted? Would that offset the fan and make it stop making the noise?

A good brand of super glue will fix it just tip it so its its on its side and the broken part is facing up and put some duck tape to stop the fan moving and place a small dob on the part were it snapped off and leave it over night, did that with a case fan that i broke and its been fine since. registered just for this reply smile.gif

Yeah I'm going to RMA it just to be sure that they don't try to void my warranty or something by using glue frown.gif Well thanks for the tip, and welcome to OCN! biggrin.gif

Would it be a bad idea to stick something to block the fan? I'm sending it off to RMA soon but for now I just want to play skyrim, I know it won't overheat with 1 fan but would that be bad for the motor to block it?

I am not sure what you mean. I would not stop the motor physically. I cant honestly remember if the motor will burn up or not because it is connected and the coils are drawing power.

I would take a quick look around see if they are on indiviual plugs and just unplug the one. But you may or may not be able to do this with the cooler attached which could mean repasting and a waste of time.

Have you heard anything from MSI on coverage of the item?

I was looking at it and I think the plugs are attached, the easy way to unplug it does unplug both. I guess it's not too bad I can run Skyrim on high no problem with just the 1 gpu so I just took the other one out. Every time I try to find out if it's covered they just say send it in, they refuse to tell me if it will actually be covered under warranty or not, just keep telling me to RMA it. So I guess I'll just have to send it out and hope they fix it and don't charge me.

You know I keep forgetting you have two cards. Yeah just RMA it man I wouldnt mess with it too much. If the fan is broken AND the motor is burned up they might start asking questions. BUT actually it was already stuck from when the fan blade was lodged in it so stick with that story it doesnt matter tongue.gif

Just wanted to post a little update in here in case anyone is lookin at the thread later with the same problem, sent it to MSI and the whole process took about 3 weeks (thanksgiving was included in there, bad time to ship it) and they fixed the fan no questions asked. thumb.gif
