Ok so this is my rig im am looking to upgrade too. i was torn between the i5 2500k and i7 2600k. went with the i7 b/c i dont know when the next time ill be able to upgrade again. Also i am uncertain of the GFX, i have been seeing they are having some issues with this specific GFX, however i would like to stay with the 570 series. Just looking for some feed back on my rig. thanks

What games are you going to play? And if you're not going to do any encoding or such work there really isn't much of a point in buying the 2600k. A dead horse is getting beaten right now.

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231402 MUCH MUCH cheaper CAS 7 at lower 1.5v only fall back is slower speed 1333mhz but that does not matter since the difference between 1600mhz and 1333mhz in real life performance is only 0.5

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127582 10$ much cooler unless you are planning to WC.

What kind of resolution will you be playing on? Ram should have no performance difference from 1333mhz to 1600mhz in gaming terms. Also that video card that I suggested will run a lot cooler then the one you selected if you are not planning on water cooling I'd recommend getting that one.

If i drop to the i5 and the ram suggested would it be worth getting a 580 gtx instead of a 570 gtx? or is the 570 series better performance for the buck?

Yes, if you don't need HT this is more than welcomed. If you are mostly gaming the i5 would be more than enough. The 580 is a better card not by that much but if you want the best the 580 is the way to go.
