CPU cooler for an old Phenom X3

Thread Starter
From this list. This is for a family computer with a 8450 Phenom X3 (2.1GHz, TDP at 95W), it's currently on the stock cooler but it makes unholy jetlike noise, so I'm just looking to get a fairly cheap but effective cooler that can keep the CPU cool at stock speeds while not being particularly loud. Not looking to spend more than ~$50 (absolute max).

Do you have 212evo? Have you tested one? ....

212Evo outperforms 212+ by 3°C

Well out of the two recommended they (PCCG) only have 212 Evo, so I'll probably get that. Unless someone chimes in and recommends something else within the next 20 minutes when I'm going to be done placing the order...

prolly just the thermal compound getting old.. since id assume its on the stock thermal preapplyed greese, its prolly old an worn
if you have no reason to OC it, get some good thermal compound and give that a try?

if you're hellbent on a new cooler, the 212+ is highly recomended, and does a damn good job for its price.. cooler master have some even cheaper priced ones the tx3, which i hear isn't that good.. >_> but supper cheap.
new?

Ohh damn, yes it's still got the stock grease... do thermal compounds usually go bad over time? I do have a ~2 years old tube of OCZ Freeze I might try before placing the order, though I'll probably end up getting the new cooler anyway since I kinda want to make it as quiet as reasonably possible.
