btw if you need a cheap 5770 i got a new one for sale

Edit: DDR3 is dirt cheap so i don't think that will be an issue for you.
I'll pm you about it later once I get the chance.

Alright well we're also going to be borrowing an old hard drive due to the current prices. So that's not an issue.

So far we have the:
case
cpu
cpu cooler
gpu (maybe unless i get other recommendations)

any other ideas?

We're at $207 so far. But with the hyper 212+ and cpu it'll cost a bit with tax so I'd say around $240 cause the tax at micro center is terrible while we get none at newegg.

I built a computer with the nzxt gamma and i have to say it is over all very good case because it has good air flow, the hard drive bays resemble nzxt's higher end cases and there is even some smaller liquid cooling capabilities. its is a bit on the flimsy side so as long as its not being thrown around its fine, but overall very good quality case for the price

Yeah it's a great cooler, I'll just end up using that for him.

you can also use the $1 cheaper ram without the "Rip Jaws" metal on it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231396

I'd say this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127577.
It performs like HD5770/HD6770.
