Rant, Rave and Review

Ok, so you know about Bulgin/Lamptron Vandal switches because it seems that everyone uses them in their build after seeing one person use them.

Ive kept from doing that because of the price. I mean really, up to $16 + shipping for a switch? Well i happened to be looking at Performance PC's site and decided to see if they had a clearance section, and they did. So im paging through it and see Vandal Switch $6.99 each. Downside is they were the dot kind and only in blue and only in 16mm. Partial bummer cause i wanted the ring kind and would have preferred the 22mm, but blue fit my case mod plans, so i got two, and 2 header cables to go along with.

Now heres where the rant(s) come in...

1. C'mon people, youre gonna charge me $7.35 for a couple ounces of mail? Even if you used a flat rate box, it would have only cost $5.05. But no, they packed it in an 8" cube with half a pound of peanut packing. Having done business on eBay for years, and over $5,000 worth last year, i know when someone is scamming shipping.
2. What is this switch made out of? I thought they were high quality? Made of steel or at least high grade AL! But no...its extremely thin and brittle AL. I sneezed with it in my hand and i swear i thought i was gonna crush it.

Not really raves, but here

1. The switch mechanism feels pretty good considering the casing. Its a firm satisfying <click> when you press it.
2. Its blue, that cant be all bad right?
3. Its a bit longer than i need, but that means that itll fit a wide variety of case mods. Ill probably be putting through up to 10mm of acrylic, and itll leave a bit trailing behind which isnt a bad thing.
4. The clips on the cables are the right size and they click in and grip good so you wont have to worry about pulling them off of the switch.

Would i ever buy these again? Possibly, but i think i would find a different manufacturer than Lamptron, if they exist.

So there you have it. What i hope you think is an unbiased, fair review of the ever so popular Vandal style switches.

i have one in my shopping cart at PerformancePC right now....i want the 22mm silver body with white ring led.

that sucks man...i'm reconsidering, because i haven't gotten to the shipping charges page yet...i really don't wanna pay $20 for a switch, but my stock Lian Li switch is cracked, and i don't know of any good alternatives in my area.

thanks for the heads up.

If you want one, get it, but yea a bit expensive, since they wont ship First Class, and we know how awesome that is

Will any of these work? http://www.radioshack.com/search/ind...ry+switch&sr=1

First Class FTW...

yeah, any of those momentary ones will work on a technical level, but i checked all those out when buying all my leds/resistors at Radio Shack, and they are just too industrial looking for me. I should know where to get Vandals, because San Diego has a high concentration of industrial suppliers, and I used to be a locksmith/door tech. I'd have to call my old boss, and I just can't bring myself to do it haha, but he would know.

For performance-pcs I believe they just generally go with a flat-rate shipping fee for weight, regardless of the size of the item, being if its a large flat panel of plexi or a small vandal switch.

For performance-pcs its best if you order with multiple items so you save on shipping. Or you can always opt to call customer service(which actually they're very helpful), and see if they can help you in any way such as shipping it via an envelope.

Did you not read my rant? I said they charged me $7.35 for something that would have cost about $2.00 First Class, or $5.05 flat rate.
