is this a bottle neck SLI 8800GT`s & I3 2100

ok playing GTA 4 & Bulletstorm / (mafia 2 30-40FPS physx on & off)

i get 70%+ CPU usage but only 60%+ GPU

mostly more cpu usage than Gpu

if it is a bottleneck would disabling HT help or is having 4 threads vs 2 better

i have rage and S.T.A.L.K.E.R C,O,P & S,O,C installed but have-not tested them yet

No. Bottleneck would be 100% CPU and 60% GPU.

You're fine. Unless you're SLI'ing something obscene as dual 590's, an i3 is pretty good at feeding video cards.

You could try disabling HT, but if you see an even bigger CPU increase, then leave it enabled. Also, GTA4 is more CPU intensive than GPU intensive, don't worry if you see your CPU squirming and GPU's mildly loaded.

You'll want to leave the HT on, for sure thumb.gif

Mafia 2 never gets great GPU usage, because the load from physX calcs doesn't show up in your gpu usage % unless the card is dedicated to physX only.

GTAIV is very cpu-intensive but ttbomk can actually only use up to 3 cores, and only 2 of them fully. Thus, if you're steady around 70-75% usage on the CPU in that game, with a 4 'core' cpu (or dual core w/HT), then you could well be getting CPU-BN'd.

People around here often try to convince others that they don't have CPU BN unless they are seeing 100% cpu usage, but that is actually pure hogwash. It's much more complicated than that.

A lack of 100% cpu usage is actually only a reliable indicator against CPU BN when you have a single core CPU. Once you have, say 4 cores (be those physical or logical CPU's i.e. via HT), it becomes possible to become BN'd at 25% of CPU usage, if you're playing a game that's only coded for one core, 50% if it's a two-core game, etc.

Lastly, just so you know ... the number of cores that you see 'activity' on in Performance graph of Task Manager doesn't actually tell you how many 'cores' the game is coded to run on.

That little I3 2100 is a surprising little bugger. I won that in a mini PC at the Geforce Lan 6 (F1 2011 contest) and damn the little bugger surprised me. It with a single Zotac GTX 560 Ti was almost on par with my single 5870 and my Q9550 @ 3.84 in benchmarks.

For a low end budget chip, that cpu really has some grunt. It may not hold up to a Quad SLI/Crossfire setup, but even SLI 580's will run great in BF3 with it.
