Battlefield 3 - Contrast too high? No problem!

Do you find the contrast too high in Battlefield 3? No problem! In just 5 steps you can edit the contrast to whatever you desire!

1) Download and Install Notepad++
2) Browse to User\Documents/My Documents\Battlefield 3\settings
3) Find "PROF_SAVE_profile" - right click and edit it with Notepad++
4) Find the "GstRender.Contrast" entry. The default number is 0.50000
5) Edit the number to whatever you desire (A little lower is probably better) then click "File > Save" in notepad++

Enjoy the same Battlefield 3 with less blinding Contrast!

NOTE: I have not found an optimal contrast setting yet. I am also looking for a way to disable those bloody sun flares and other crappy visuals that aren't needed. Stay posted!

Wouldn't changing sun flares give you an advantage online and be considered cheating?

Perhaps, but all's far in love and war. I would only do it if you could edit it in the config, nothing else, as I'm not a fan of getting banned.
I would be careful with doing this. PB can see the CFG file for the game and knows what the allowed values are. You will get banned if you edit it too far.

For changing contrast? I highly doubt it. Too high and you're blind, too low and everything's dark. Doesn't change anything dramatic.

People edit this config to change sensitivity for vehicles, which you can't do in game, and they haven't had any problems.

It's merely changing settings in the config, that you could probably do with the in game console as well. I haven't actually tried that.

Just giving you a heads up. Do as you wish. I am very familiar with what PB looks at, and monitors.

PB is very early in its cycle with BF3 and may not be looking at everything yet. But it will be eventually. Just like it does with BC2.

This is why it will boot you for MSI Afterburner or Steam overlay. As I said before it has parameters that are set in and if you CFG file exceeds them...BAN. People may be tweaking within the limits so far. If you go to far and its another story.

good luck dude. those are effects that are used all the way to low settings to maintain balance. disabling those and things such as the flashlight glare would give unfair advantage.

why not just change it on your monitor?
That way your not "editing" the game and risk getting kicked?
I might have missed something so correct me if i have...

Flashlight glare? Absolutely not! I'm talking about the annoying and overly large sun glare on almost every map. Do you know how irritating it is? You can't look up to admire the pretty graphics cause the stupid sun flares talk up half your screen mad.gif

Badco2 actually had contrast sliders, that game was super washed out for me. BF3 not as much but a little bit. I havent tried to fix it though. I just want that dirty lens effect gone... frown.gif
