It also allows me to select it as a boot device but outside of the BIOS when it tries to load it says there isn't one connected. I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I believe the HDD is a 3.0 Gb/s and I have it plugged in using a 6.0 Gb/s SATA cable. Should I switch the cable to a 3.0 Gb/s? or would that not make a difference?
No that should not make a difference it will just use the lower of the two devices bandwidth.
sata II hdd or ssd into a sata III port = 3.0 Gb/s
sata III hdd or ssd into a sata II port = 3.0 Gb/s
sata III hdd or ssd into a sata III = 6.0 Gb/s
As for your issue. If it is displayed in bios it is there. Have you changed your boot sequence to make your cd rom the primary boot device and attempted to install you OS? It's really saying you have no OS i assume.
