"it is time" (yea.. i did a lion king qoute) to oc my 2600k

Thread Starter
Alright, well i havent done an OC in a few months (april i think)

anyways, i finally jumped on the intel Flag Ship Super Star Destroyer Executor Class, thats why i call my 2600k. Anyways, ive had it running solid and safe for a solid month now, and now i wanna OC.

The thing is ive never really owned a intel system before, and i have a few questions

1) should i put on the other fan that is optional for my mobo? ( its because of the thermal armor, i have a 200mm blowing from the side panel onto the mobo

2) how do i turn HT off, apparently its pretty much all around better to have it off (for game proformance, as well as temps)

3) how exactly do i oc? on my 1090t all i had to do was go 20 multi and 1.49 vcore.

4) is there any other things i should OC on my mobo (any of the chipsets ect?)

5) i havent oced my 570 at all... i want to get a stable cpu oc before i start with my 570, however does anyone here know what the "basic" 570s of the EVGA can OC to? whats a good voltage limit, also and the 570 and the 570DS sli together? (i think these are the same cards just different coolers)

thanks all, and Rep to those who credibly help

1. Not sure as I've never used that board. I'm sure it couldn't hurt to put it but if your temps are ok then meh.

2. There should be an option in the bios/uefi to disable hyper threading. You do realize by doing this though your chip just turned in to a 2500k? tongue.gif

3. Pretty much just raise the multi and vcore. There are a few good guides in this forum that make OC'ing sandy bridge really easy.

4. Maybe your RAM if it can handle it.

5. No help here either. tongue.gif

You might also want to edit the last line, I don't think you're allowed to offer rep for help. wink.gif

1) No. Unless you like the plastic to be there, take it off. I left mine on because it sort of went with the theme, but it does nothing. I haven't noticed a temp problem with it on, even with overclocking.

2) Leave HT on unless you are going to go for a high overclock. That's the whole reason you bought a 2600k, right?

3) Give this a read. Blazed helped a lot with this one.

4) For now, no. Only use the multi to OC (only thing you really can use).

5) No idea. Might want to head over to the Nvidia section.
