Need help seeing what to get. on i7 or i5 not the 2500k vs 2600k

Thread Starter
Im currently doing a rebuild and selling current system to a friend. I need to find out if the new proc. ill be getting will be some what of a upgrade from my i7 860. so list of parts i will be getting.

Asus sabertooth p67
saphhire toxic 6950
oczx 850w
corsair vengeance 16gb

I don't know if i should get the 2600k or 2500k :/ i see the 2600k is for the most part better at some other stuff but other than the 2mb and Ht not to much. Then i look up 860 vs 2500k there almost the same! I'm like ughhh! Then to top it off ivry bridge is coming out(idk what the time of release is) so idk what to do! also to through into the mix that i want to soon CF or SLi.

And my friend wants to buy now so he can start playing battlefield 3 :/ so I'm not sure if ivy can be waited for :/

Main use of this computer will be playing video games:current and new games. maybe some light family video editing but thats about it(very rare).

For gaming they'd perform about the same, save your money and get the 2500K, hyperthreading is useless in the majority of games.

You most likely won't notice a difference. The i7 860 is a beast just like the SB chips. If you have to pick between the 2500k and 2600k, grab the 2500k if you only do light occasional video editing.

id just go with the 2500k. The 2600k is almost 100 dollars more and the only advantage it has is the hyper threading which isn't really even that usefull. And you get the flashy i7 name instead of i5. But there really similar and i think the 2500k is fine and a better money wise deal.
