BF3 hitting 26 FPS on MEDIUM with a 6970? - Page 8

Like I suggested on page 1, try uninstalling your current driver and getting 11.10 Preview 3. For me, it turned BF3 from stuttery and unplayable to smooth as a baby's bottom with the same graphics settings. Also make sure your 6970 isn't underclocking itself for whatever reason.

Those benchmarks are all centered around a pre-determined singleplayer cut scene. Multiplayer is possibly going to be a bit more dramatic but I still think the CPU is somewhat sufficient and shouldn't be dropping you into the 20's, though your clocks are low. Caspian is also one of the hardest hitting maps, though I only actually drop down around 40fps - 45fps. If you have MSAA enabled, DISABLE it. It's a killer.

If you open up the console in a multiplayer game, type:
Render.PerfOverlayVisible 1
per http://forums.electronicarts.co.uk/b...-goodness.html
I've tried it and I'm not seeing any irregularities with my CPU @ specifically at 1680x1050, ultra, MSAA off, post AA high, HBAO on. Maybe sporadically for a split second, but it doesn't move much from the GPU line. I haven't tried it at a higher resolution so you may want to try it yourself.

This will show you the GPU's performance comparative to the CPU's, it's rendering in milliseconds. If the GPU drops below the CPU, you have a CPU bottleneck. So higher is worse.

I was about to post what pengs did. Disable MSAA for now, for some ****ed reason, it murders framerates on ATI hardware.

Something else going on here. Stop playing in safe mode?

Your problem is your CPU, its too old and slow. You need to overclock it as high as you possibly can (3.6-4.0GHz), or do a full platform upgrade at this point. That 6970 is just sitting there twiddling its thumbs waiting for CPU instructions by that 4 year old CPU.
Where on earth did you get the idea that a Q9550 will bottleneck a 6970 in a GPU dependent game?

I think a lot of people aren't realizing this Frostbite 2.0 engine needs more cores not more core speed. A 2.5Ghz Quad will be far superior in this engine than a 4Ghz dual core. In other games its completely opposite, but this game is the way of the future.

Just my 2 cents... I run it fine on Medium (no AA) with my sig rig at stock speeds. Get about 45 - 50 fps but will dip into the 20's in high actions moments. So I really don't think its your hardware.

Anyone have a suggestion for a motherboard from these?

http://www.microcenter.com/search/se...Ntx=AllPartial (any of the pages)

or just a 1155 mobo in general?

40 bucks off the i5 + 60 bucks off a new mobo... probably gonna just go for it.

I was looking at this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157271 due to a previous poster's suggestion, but micro center only has the extreme4 and it's significantly pricier.

Asus P8P67 Pro, ASRock P67 Fatality are both solid cheaper boards that are on that list. Make sure you get the i5 2500K model. The K part of it, shows that its an unlocked multiplier, so it actually overclocks. Sandy Bridge won't overclock with BCLK (FSB) very well (it reaches 105 roughly as a max, 100 being stock).

Alright cool, checkin' em out. Would you think the ASRock Z68 Extreme4 is worth the extra money?
