MX-3 is almost impossible to spread. Is MX-4 any easier?

on this build I got mx-4. I didn't spread it out, but I just squirted some on a DVD and using a razor it spread like butter never used any other paste though, haha.

Do you think it will spread easy? MX-3 is like puddy.

If you have a flat base on your heatsink it it best not to spread. Most of the stuff isnt designed to spread that well, because just putting small dot, or line is the best way to do it. Then let the grip of the heatsink do the spreading. Sorry I didnt actually answer the question, but i have not spread TIM in years.

I have read a lot about spreading and the line and all about that. I just prefer to spread I have gotten better results with it.

Dont spread it out, use a pea size drop in the center and put the heatsink on top.

This way you wont get any airpockets.

MX-3 is a more viscous paste. Use the dot method and just install the heatsink on top of it.

like everyone is saying, I used the dot method and it has been so easy, everyone told me TIM is the worst part of a build, now I just laugh

Dip it in warm/hot water to soften it, use same small dot method. The paste will be a bit more runny and will spread easily.
