GPUs to max out BF3 and other demanding games?

Hi, I was wondering what kind of GPU power do I need to completely max out BF3 and any other high demanding games like it? I am not FPS freak, and I guess a lot of you guys would agree if I said anything around 40 - 60FPS is enough to consider smoothly playable / gameplay I got a 60hrz monitor and with vsync on I guess there wont be any point of going over 60FPS. I was a bit shocked by the recent threads pooping up here about BF3.

You see I actually had a nice gtx460 sli + for gtx260 physx setup until one of the 460 cards broke down last week. So never got around playing BF3. But very interested to know as I hear it can't be done with two 460's?

Really? on a 1920x1080 Display running 60hrz you need 2 GTX580's?
I find that very hard to believe.

if you want to absolutely MAX bf3 you will either need a sli/crossfire setup or a GTX 590. For an sli or crossfire I would consider, 570s 580s 6950s 6970s

Now if you want to save some money you can always go with a single 580 and be fine. I dont run "Max" but I run all graphical settings on ultra with high post AA. I simply turn off deferred AA since that is what KILLS your fps, and I never go below 60 fps.

EDIT: this guy has 2x mars II 580s in sli running bf3 maxed and it still has alot of problems.

So in other words I am not gona be able to max things out with two 460's in sli? I dont want 100's of FPS. Anything over 40+ FPS would be fine imo.

Crossfire 6970s. They will do the job. They are also cheaper then gtx580s. 6970s also have more vram, which isn't really a huge deal for you seeing as you run single monitor, but none the less. BF3 does use a lot of vram. Or you could go 6990. No doubt that would do it too. Correct me if I am wrong but it is 2x 6970s on the same card with a slight down-clock to their cores. Not sure how hot they get though.

Oh for the love of god.... people are just amazing these days. Just buy a 580 and go use Textures on Ultra, Effects on Ultra and rest of medium / high, don't use this useless AA, you are playing MULTIPLAYER and unless you are bad, you won't see a difference between AA or no AA (only if you are a sniper camping and looking at useless stuff) rest of the options are USELESS STUFF that you do NOT care about unless you are sniping or you wanna show off to your buddies that you are running it on "ultra" non sense. This game looks good even on LOW.. spending thousands of dollars for "Ultra" is just sad

if vram were a concern I would say go with 580s in sli but get the version with 3GB. I do agree that the 6970s would get the job done and be cheaper.

I still think 1 580 is more than enough for this game and many others though.... like i said i play ultra with no MSAA and i get awesome fps and dont notice a difference in graphics with it off. I also play metro 2033 and get decent fps on max settings. The 580 is very good and when overclocked is amazing. I guess its hard to really recommend something when we dont know your budget.
