This game looks good even on LOW.. spending thousands of dollars for "Ultra" is just sad
The OPs question was to COMPLETELY MAX OUT BF3 with minimum 40 fps. So your point doesn't really solve anything.

Thanks Guys +reps. I am only using a 22" Monitor at 1920x1080 . So As long as I can max everything out and frames aren't dropping below 40+ I am happy. basically want smooth gameplay. I was under the impression that my previous 460's could handle that tho it sounds different from what I hear from you. My Budget is maybe around $300 - $350 at most. Currently have 1 GTX460 that still works, or should I just grab one more?

Hmm I wouldn't just grab another gtx460. If that's your budget then you can grab a hd6970 for $330 (maybe even cheaper) and that will out perform your gtx460 and a little further down the road you could throw in another 6970. Just a suggestion.

you can get away with runnig a 6950 2GB card, and you cant pick one up for 250 or less, the only reason i got an additional one to xfire was because im running eyefinity (5760x1080) and 35fps wasnt cutting it with one card so now i have good fps, but like you said your running 1080p res on a 22" so one would do ya fine. my settings are all on Ultra, 2x MSAA, 16X AF, HBAO off (SSAO on tho) , post AA max, motion blur off. i dont think im forgetting anything... this game runs and looks beautiful!!!!

My point solves exactly everything. He doesn't wanna spend tons of money for something that doesn't matter at all

"Congratulations on paying 1000$ for video cards, you can now see objects further away and stop by random edges and have a nice look at them" I agree, totally worth it, not.

Not a bad suggestion but I was thinking two 460's in sli should be faster than a single 6950 or 6970? just a thought, and I was also wanting to go midrange cards since they are more quite than the high end ati and nvidia cards

Yea I am trying not to spend much money.
I already had a 460SLi rig but one card went bad last week.

dont have much $$ on my budget to spend on it either As long as its smooth gameplay with everything max, absolute max at 1920x1080 no lags.. 40+ FPS(?) is it? I am happy with it.

Nop, my cards running out of VRAM with drops to 14 FPS and the game is unplayable. i can run it on 1080p - AA/off APOST/low and all others on ULTRA with SSAO, but still some times i have drops from 70 to 40 fps coused by out of VRAM.

If you get the 2GB version these cards will rock.

Yeah sli 460 should be faster than a single 6970, but if you get a 6970 you get the bonus of newer tech and mainly the ability to throw in another one if needed down the road. Where as if you get another gtx 460, not much room down the road. Eventually you will just be selling them both anyways. And a 6970 performs much better than a single gtx460 that your running now.

I havent purchased BF3 nor do I intend on it anymore due to Origin, but my CF 6850s handle just about everything maxed out as is. If you have the option and can get one cheap a second 460 would be just fine. You won't be able to max out the AA/AF but everything else will be on high/ultra. At 1080 you do not even need all that much AA/AF for a very smooth looking result.

Look for a used or cheap 460. Sit on it for a while, resell and upgrade with the next gen of GPUs. I cannot imagine SLI460s will result in a terrible game play experience in BF3 or any game for that matter.

Good luck bud!
